How to Boot Windows 8 in Safe Mode
If you Windows machine keeps crashing and giving you BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) and posting up STOP Error codes or maybe you have installed a new program or software update and now you’re having issues with your computer or the computer has been infected with malicious malware that has corrupted your operating system. A good place to start is Safe Mode, but in Windows 8 this is not as easy as it used to be in previous versions of Windows, There is a way of enabling the F8 key so it will work like previous Windows Versions,
Method 1: Here’s how to enable F8:
Open Command Prompt and Run as Administrator You should be at this location C:\Windows\System32>_ Now to enable F8 in Windows 8 you need to type:
bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy
Now press the Enter key.

Here’s how to boot into safe mode using System Configuration Tool:
Method 2: Using System Configuration Tool
Step 1:
- Go to bottom right of the screen on the Charms bar, Click Search.
- Type “msconfig” on the left click msconfig. This will open the System Configuration utility.
Step 2: In the System Configuration Utility. Click on Boot tab and select Safe Boot & Network then click No GUI Boot then click OK button.
This is Optional to Boot with Diagnostic Startup:
If you select Diagnostic Startup (example below) you’re computer with only boot with basic devices and services that your computer need to startup.This is a great option when troubleshooting, it gives your computer a clean boot to see if the issues or problem goes away when Diagnostic Startup is enabled on boot up.
