Hi Guys
Ok I'm using Windows 10 home 1607 and the other day I went to use my laptop and for some unknown reason my desktop Icons will not open any programs ( all Icons do not work ) . I double left click lets say Google chrome and the blue circle spins as if Chrome is going to open and nothing happens , As I said this is all Program Icons not just Chrome . I have done several virus scans and I have not done any Windows updates or installed any new programs before this problem arose . I would be grateful to anyone that could point Me in the right direction of how to fix this problem .
Kind Regards
Noel Dowds

Rebuild Icon Cache
Try this fix
- Open an elevated command prompt.
- Now type the following commands and hit Enter:
Code:
cd /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer attrib –h iconcache_*.db del iconcache_*.db start explorer
- Clear Thumbnail Cache
- Now type the following commands and hit Enter:
Code:
cd /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
attrib –h
thumbcache_*.db
del thumbcache_*.db
start explorer

Maybe the shortcuts are broken. I would like to know if you're able to open those programs in any other way. Try this. Right click any of those desktop icons, select "Open file location" and try opening the file from there.
Let me know what happens.

Yeah, it could also be a file association issue.
