i am using my Toshiba laptop with windows 8.1 update 1, the model is Satellite C55-A and part number is PSCF6U-0EF09J
how do I take the hard disk self test make sure is fully functioning
I did post the forums on Toshiba website but it won't help me!

You could also use built in windows tool from command prompt as admin. Open cmd as admin and type in chkdsk /p. this will check your drive for errors but not fix them.
On the Toshiba manual I could not find any system diagnostics for boot.

Running the chkdsk command verifies the file system integrity of a volume and fixes logical file system errors. It will give you no indicated if the drive is bad or not, it will report bad sectors at the end of the scan. Running this on a drive which you think is failing could actually push the drive too hard and kill it.
