Hey Guys, I've got an HP Probook 650 G1 that needs a repair. The fan doesn't seem to be working properly. When I power on the laptop it doesn't come on but sometimes it will start up on its own for around 20 seconds then switch of again.. I've tried resetting any bios settings and it has the latest bios version. I just wanted to know if anyone else had any other ideas I could try before I buy a new fan for it? Windows 10 is running very slow even after a brand new Samsung EVO SSD and fresh install of windows and I'm pretty confident its because the fan isn't working properly and things are getting hot.
Any advice/ help would be greatly appreciated.

does your laptop come with preinstalled windows 10 when bought?
I doubt that it's a Windows 10 issue or that the fan is bad... From experience, I'm pretty sure that the heat sink assembly is clogged with dust and dirt...

No there is not one spec of dust or anything as it was all cleaned.
114C is really bad and can lead to hardware damage in the long run. You need to teardown the laptop and remove all dust build up, apply new thermal compound while your in there and replace any fans that need to be replaced.
can you install this software and post results, just want to make sure its not a software issue.

Hi Britec, Thank you so much for your reply. Yeah I know that's bad. I havent turned on the laptop since unless to try different solutions then I switch it back off straight away and wait until its cold again to try something else. I don't see why it would be a software issue because it just got installed a brand new samsung SSD and brand new windows 10 install about an hour prior to noticing the fan wasnt working when windows was running very slow (which it shouldnt be on a samsung ssd)

Is it the CPU fan that you were referring to that starts with a delay, and if yes, what exactly makes you say that? Did you remove the panel and observe the delay?

Yeah, I just took off the back panel to see if anything seemed weird to why windows 10 was running so slow on a brand new samsung ssd and fresh install of windows. I first thought maybe the ram just needed taken out and put back in again or something but I took the back panel off and switched it on just to see (Whilst looking at the bottom) and the fan failed to start when the laptop was powered on.

The fan does seem to still work (Although being faulty) because I have caught it starting to work after I pressed a button from the bios to reset the bios settings the fan started up for around 30 seconds not long after and span no problem then shut off around 30 seconds later, The fan still spins easy enough and makes no obvious noise when it did spin so the bearings must still be ok enough. The laptop did get the fan cleaned out about 2 weeks ago so maybe it got damaged with compressed air or something? I have no idea.
