A Step by Step Guide to Reinstalling Your OS
#1
Just wondering the steps you take after the install is done.
I have done the factory reinstall a few times on the Toshiba Satellite L655-S5096 laptop. And I've always wondered what steps other people take after the initial install is done and remove the recovery media.
Just wondered if there is a better or quicker way to start with the drivers, dealing with the free 30 day Norton anti virus and Best Buy bloatware that pops up after every restaet. Windows Updates which I will scan for new and install when I do it and not using the recommended setting where it will always scan and download install the updates until I get everything installed and then I'll change it to that one setting .
But I'm just curious on how anyone else that has time to tell me tthere steps they take after the OS is installed. Thanks for reading

1. Set Custom PC Name
2. Select  the recommend setting for Windows update
3. Create a Local Account
4. Once at the desktop,  I make sure my screen resolution is at the recommend option and I am connected to the internet.
5. Use the software Decrapifier to remove any preinstalled apps the manufacturer has put on.
6. Use AV Uninstall Tools Pack  to remove preinstalled antivirus completely.
7. For drivers, I go to their manufacturer website and download and install the latest driver.
8. Since Windows update in Windows 7 is very old, because it needs to install 200 updates, I use WSUS Offline Update to download all the latest Windows 7 updates, then install them on the machine (this saves a lot of time) I also run Windows update in general because I can find missing drivers.
9. Install an antivirus like Bitdefender
10. Install comely apps like Google Chrome, Malwarebytes, Firefox, Skype
VlLC
11. Install any custom apps or apps that I use a lot such as Origin, Steam, Adobe software and etc.
12. Run CCleaner and make sure my PC is fast.
13 Once I know I have installed the things I use and my PC is in a good state, I create a system image using Macrium Reflect

Hope this Helps

Yeah, if you upgraded from 7 or 8.1 but if you didn't, you will have to enter a product key.

You can enter a product key any time usually you have a good 30 days before the nagging starts so you can test drive beforehand. The choice is entirely up to the individual.

RECdevicehelper you could enter the product key during the install process, then you would not activate Windows  Big Grin it would automatically activate.
