windows 7 Updates
#1
Good day Everyone,

Having an issue with a new computer W7 64 bit. Updates were done in July but it states updates have never been ran. I am now getting the error code 800700002 when I try and click on the update tab. I have tried the MS System update readiness tool and the fixit 50202 tool but I am still getting that error message. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Good day,

Tried both to the T and still the same error message. The programs from MS fix it will run but after reboot it gives the same error. I have googled it and nothing.

Thanks again for your posts.

Start uninstalling updates one by one. After each uninstall check to see if the problem still exists.

Good Day,

Thanks for all of your assistance. Tried everything mentioned here and more but kept getting different error messages after fixing another.. decided to start from scratch.

What is the best way to load windows updates for a fresh install.. Waiting for windows to check for updates takes 24 hours or more in some cases.

Thanks again for all of your help.. Very much appreciated.

If you intend to start from scratch, refer the article at https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-download/windows7

Adding to Partha's post. After you have downloaded the windows 7 iso and burned it to a CD/DVD, here are few things you should do:

1. Create a system image of using Macrium Reflect before performing a fresh install, have a look at brian's video on how to that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQA7NlLvxg8. Make sure you save it to an external hard drive that is big enough to store it
It is important to create a system image of using Macrium Reflect before performing a fresh install because if the installation fails, you can restore windows 7 before you did the fresh install. This will also backup any files such as pictures, music, videos, documents, folders, etc.

2.  Find out what programs you need to install after the fresh install: See brian's video on how to create a list of your installed programs on your PC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JavNWWZFRfE. Save the text file to an external storage device.

3. Make a note of your windows product key, so when it comes to activating your operating system, you have it on hand. Note it might be stored in the iso, in which case you won't need to copy it down, but I suggest you keep it on hand anyway

4. Backup drivers! Again make sure you save the drivers to an external storage device, i.e USB, external hard drive. Here is an another video created by brian on how to do that:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heCpPCMjbqI

5. Manually download windows updates! Instead of waiting for windows update to check, download and install updates, download them manually and install them after the fresh install. Here is a video created by Eli the computer guy on how to do that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXAOvbNJYyE. Make sure you copy the wsusoffline to an external storage device after you have downloaded the updates.

6. Reinstall Windows:
Have a look at this video created by DIY PC Repairs on how to format and perform a clean install of windows 7: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mME9VLT7-xw, (make sure you format drive where windows is installed, you don't need to format your storage drive)

After you have reinstalled windows, restore your drivers, install your windows updates that you have manually downloaded.
Retrieve your files from your system image backup. Look at this article created by how to geek: https://www.howtogeek.com/226436/how-to-mount-a-macrium-reflect-backup-image-to-retrieve-files/
Then open the text file containing your programs and download and install them.
Hope this helps helps
Thanks
