Cloud Storage - ray - 09-13-2014

are you a bit of a backup geek I must say I have become one, I use Dropbox and Amazon plus External hard drives, I fell foul a a few year ago. but i am surprised how many friends ad family don't, and i tell them but it seems to go in one ear and out the other.

I only use external drives as I like to be able to physically get to the data, that way I know whats happened to it.

RE: Cloud Storage - ray - 09-13-2014

I would never put anything important on the cloud but its handy for me

Yeah I must say, don't have much faith is cloud storage, look at PS4 Storage, got hacked, like you Ray I would not keep sensitive data up on the cloud. Server, Nas drive storage all the way for me...with the odd external drive here and there.

To Me Cloud Storage is a security risk and I do not use it. Local backups for me on to a External drive. If I need ot back something up I have ready access to it and that goes directly into my safe. Thats the best way in my opinion.

My flash drives break on me all the time
so i use Dropbox and i got 50gb to use on there

If you've got the time. Take a look here: https://socialcompare.com/en/comparison/cloud-file-sharing-solutions-comparative

For me I use a combo solution. Google drive and Cubby.
But I also backup by creating system images and file backups to external media.

RE: Cloud Storage - AboodY - 09-16-2014

I would NOT trust ANY cloud storage.

If you are looking for a backup solution then a ReadyNAS 100 series would be the best option AND it would be easer to sell to friends and family as its a once off payment and if you have say a 4 bay and your friends/family have a 2 bay they can backup to your device and you to theirs. https://www.netgear.com.au/home/products/connected-storage/readynas-100.aspx

With all this crap with the US government trying to get data off a European Microsoft and Google servers. I wont take my chances.

Most of my customers use an external drive, and they steer away from cloud storage.

I use dbox, copy, gdrive and box and have just about anything backed up on those drives. But all the accounts are free, got my space boosted up by referrals. For work, though, I use a less known but very reliable service of mozy.co.uk
