Free Antivirus - chris36202 - 09-07-2014

What free antivirus should i use and should i install a firewall with it. i am running avast free antivirus and i want to use something different

For a free antivirus I would probably stick to using Avast, its probably one of the better free ones out there.

How come you would like to change?

In regards to a firewall... I've used ZoneAlarm in the past (many years ago now) they actually offer a free one.

I currently find the inbuilt Windows 7 firewall sufficient.

I concur that Avast is the best free antivirus software. Most routers now would have built in firewall. It is better to protect yourself at this level rather than the os level.

I did a quick review on Avast if you would like to take a look.

All right Thanks guys

There is no one single best as they all have their Pro's and Cons (although some are better than others) if you are accessing through a router that should have its own FW as mentioned by @TopFreeware above.

A lot would depend upon your OS and just how you use it (system tweaks, unknown sites etc) as @jmitservices states Win7 has a FW which can be very effective when combined with a routers own FW.

Picking a free antivirus is always going to come down to personal preference, because everyone will claim they are using the best antivirus.
As long as you have some sort of layer security, you should be fine.

1. Avast or any free antivirus.
2. Malwarebytes Pro
3. Comodo Firewall or Private Firewall 7.0
4. HitmanPro as a on demand scanner
5. Winpatrol (optional) this will protect and notifi of any changes to files and registry that malware likes to use and change, wicked little program.

I hope this thread doesn't turn into a 'mine's better than yours' thread.
