Does anyone know of a good backup app for my OS HDD? I want to backup a Samsung SSD 850 EVO. I don't know if I should clone or create an image of the drive.
Here is a free one which is very good. Macrium Reflect Free
AOMEI and Macrium Reflect are best free backup programs.
Or if your feeling like a challenge (learning a new thing) give Clonezilla a try.
I would go with clonezilla it never fail on me backup any operating system

this video should help

Good video ,thank you Compton !
Thanks for the advice guys, I give these a try. But I was also wondering if it's better to clone or create an image of the drive? Plus does using the computer like browsing online etc effect the process of cloning or imaging?
No it does not affect during imagin process. I have stored images on my secondary partition which i recommend . Anyway make sure you made bootable media in case your PC gets messed up badly.
Clone is good if you are cloning to a new bigger hard drive. Backup image is great for regular backups.
Try and store your backup images on a separate hard drive and not a second partition.

  • Cloning a drive clones the entire contents of the drive to another drive or partition, this could also be a new bigger hard drive or partition.
  • Imaging your hard drive is designed for regular backing up of your data and operating system.
  • Full backup - does what it says, makes a full backup of the system.
  • Incremental backups - backs up only the changed data, which means it will only back up the data that has changed since the last backup.
  • Differential backups - A differential backup will backup only the files that have been changed since your last full back.
