the fans just spin. even when the p4 plug is not plugged in

yes.. i did, also i am using onboard video.

you do have a motherboard speaker plug in right

Yes i do. and it doesn't beep at me for no ram

ok I would replace the motherboard and report back

Just wanted to chime in and confirm that you tried a known good stick of memory? Have you also tried moving the memory to different slots?

I hope you wore an ESD strap when touching those components lol
