I've just installed a Virtual PC VM on one of my laptops, with the plan being to then infect the hell out of it with Malware. Simple reason: to sharpen up my 'search & destroy' skills! My question is this - I've made sure the VM is not connected to the network, for safety reasons, but do I also need to make sure the host is also disconnected from the network?

Thanks for any advice. Smile
You should use a network that's not being used and have you Virtualbox set to Host-only in network settings.

Thanks for that. I'm using the Virtual PC VM from Windows 7 (not Virtualbox) - is that "Host-only" setting also available there?

Also, I don't have a "spare" network. Is it enough just to turn off the wireless on my laptop (host)?

  1. They all have the capability to be setup with a Custom Network Setting or Host Only. You just have to set it up right. All software may vary, but the result will be the same.
  2. You don't need a spare network? you setup a Dedicated Virtual Network with Host Only or Setup a Custom Network.
