Trying your Bootable Recovery Console ISO Image
https://briteccomputers.co.uk/posts/bootable-recovery-console-iso-image-by-britec-2/

Neither Unetbootin, Rufus, nor the MS Windows7-USB-DVD-Download-Tool-Installer could make a bootable USB, they complain that it is not a valid ISO. But, I did find that Yumi Multiboot did not complain, and is able to boot the iso from USB.

However it Blue Screens before giving one the option to enter "R". Is this a problem with the iso or with the computer?
Does is matter which version of XP is on the computer? If so, how can that be determined from a non-bootable system?
Hi asp,

Sorry mate but I have no knowledge of this as never tried it and wouldn't go near an XP machine these days (never liked them back in the day) so you'll have to wait til Britec comes online.
If you have a Windows XP CD that has Recovery Console in it, that file has been rip from a Windows XP CD.
I found an XP iso online, but as it is not the exact same version of XP, it refuses to display the Recovery console.

So, how can I get your recovery ISO onto a USB flash drive?
Just use ERD Commander 2005, its a lot better and gives you more options for repair.

Is it freeware? Where can it be downloaded? How do I run it from a USB drive?
Its not freeware and to make a bootable USB, you ca use Rufus
If you don't want to pay, use a Windows XP CD.
XP u are an extremely person Smile
Its probably just my luck but i haven't been able to get rufas to work with windows xp do you think it could depend on which version of rufas im using because i seem to get an error message when i use rufas with an iso image of xp with the current version of rufas
