Hi,

I had an issue a month or so ago with a Lenovo laptop, that was 5 months old... https://briteccomputers.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?tid=4203

Firstly I would like to reiterate my gratitude for all the advice received on this matter..

The last update, was the Lenovo Authorised Service Centre, fitted a new motherboard and a new hard drive, however a week later ,the same symptoms re-appeared..
I had a BSOD, which indicated a memory issue, so I ran Memtest overnight, and it reported no issues..(This laptop has already 4GB DDR4 2133 RAM soldered onto the motherboard, which is non removable, when I purchased the laptop, I asked the shop to upgrade it to a further 4GB.. the shop inserted 1 removable stick of Apacer DDR4 2400 Sodimm 4GB  )
So, I removed the upgraded 1 removable stick of Apacer DDR4 2400 Sodimm 4GB from the laptop...

Now, i have zero issues...

My question is,
Is this just a faulty stick of RAM? Or this laptop can only operate on two sticks of same speed of 2133?,
as I've read a lot of systems can operate on two different speeds of RAM...
I would like to upgrade it to a further 4GB again, but I am wary if the situation rears its ugly head again

Once again many thanks..

Pretty much what happened is the ram slot the shop put on your laptop was a no go. Either the ram slot was soldiered incorrectly or that mobo of the laptop was made only to support one ram module.

If you look up the model number of the laptop and download the manual itll tell you how much ram the laptop will support and youll also find out if you can add more ram or if your laptop is already maxed out.

The laptop has 4GB RAM already soldered to motherboard , it has one remaining slot which can be upgraded to a maximum of 16GB..

So total RAM can be 20GB, I only added 4GB ...

Oops i was reading different posts my bad. If the manual of the laptop says the max ram is 16gb then anything passed that could lead to issues but for the ram module id compare both ram sticks with software like speccy.
The new RAM is causing a conflict. Always best to go with the same speeds as different ones will tend to cause a gearing down of the faster speed ram, A Computer Is Only As Fast As Its Slowest Component.

More often than not with RAM, BSOD's can / will occur so always use a matched pair where possible.

Thanks a lot @GuiltySpark
you should take back to the shop

they should tested it properly
Never seen ram cause that sort of display issue unless tied to the graphics chip.

Perhaps it is a intermittent screen issue.
