I have a Win 8.1 machine. I was copying desktop folders to an external drive. Unfortunately I thought this could be done by drag and drop to the external drive. I selected my Downloads folder and started to drag. I got a message, create a link, before I reached the external drive. I attempted to put the Downloads folder back. On checking the contents, Most of the files have disappeared.

I'm not very computer literate and didn't realise there is a send to option. This worked fine with Documents Folder. I've been unable to find the lost files. However Revo Uninstaller lists them all.

Is there any way of recovering these files?

Thanks for that Brian. I had a look at it and to be honest it went way over my head.   Not to worry. Plan B is to look at the programs I have installed on the Win 8.1 and download again onto my brand new Win 10 machine. Your Win 10 ten tips video was very helpfull.

Data Recovery software is really designed to recover lost data like Photos, Music, Movies, Doc's etc etc. If you need a hand to recover them let me know.
