You still see 2000 sometimes in production plants that run old machines.

Yep they never have to hit the net. They have one job and one job only.
It would cost 10s and even 100s of thousands of dollars if they upgraded to current software and technology that does the same thing at the end of the day.

I just replaced a motherboard for the local power plant here in town... One of those monster Dell T7400 workstations. It had Windows XP Pro SP 1 in it. It runs one of the big generators that has been down for a few months.
So, even some software will only run on certain service packs... If updated, will break a vital software.
