Full Version: Help in Removing WannaCry Ransomware

My wifes pc is getting crap about some wannacry ransomware, she does not make any online purchases, is this an issue, if so, advice please on how to remove it

First: Download and scan all of your PCs with Malwarebytes...this ransomware can infect other PC's on your network.

Download from here:
https://www.malwarebytes.com/

Second: Go to Windows Update and make sure you have all the latest updates (Microsoft released patches to fix this issue).

If your files have been encrypted, don't try to pay the ransom to get them back because the email address associated with this attack is no good.

This attack is usually spread through a Word Document or link in email...

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
  • Install the progam and select update.
  • Once updated, click the Settings tab, in the left panel choose Detctions & protection and tick Scan for rootkits.
  • Click the Scan tab, choose Threat Scan is checked and click Scan Now.
  • If threats are detected, click the Apply Actions button. You will now be prompted to reboot. Click Yes.
  • Upon completion of the scan (or after the reboot), click the History tab.
  • Click Application Logs and double-click the Scan Log.
  • At the bottom click Export and choose Text file.
Save the file to your desktop and include its content in your next reply

Please download JRT by Malwarebytes and save the file to your desktop.
Temporary disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware protection - instructions here.

  • Right-click on [Image: junkware_removal_tool.png] icon and select [Image: RunAsAdmin.jpg] Run as Administrator to start the tool.
  • Follow the prompts and let this process run uninterrupted.
  • This scan can take a while, depending on your System specs.
  • Upon completion, a log (JRT.txt) will open on your desktop.





Please download [Image: adwcleane.png] AdwCleaner (by Xplode) and save it to your Desktop


  • Right-click on AdwCleaner.exe and Run as administrator
  • Click Scan. (AdwCleaner will now scan for Adware.)

  • Once scan finishes, click Clean, now follow the on screen prompts.

  • Your computer should now reboot.

  • A log file will automatically open. Please Copy and Paste when you replay in your next post.
