Hi everyone,

I have Linux mint 18.1 installed in Oracle Virtualbox.
But it's running very slow !!

During installation, this message appeared:
"Running in software rendering mode ..."
See the attachments : message.jpg , Virtualbox_settings.jpg

These are my computer specs:

Acer : Model Aspire XC-105 (P0)
OS : Windows 10 Home 64-bit
CPU : AMD A4-5000 1.50 GHz
Graphics : ATI AMD Radeon HD 7000 series 2048 MB 12,8 GB/s
Driver version 15.200.1062.1004
RAM : 8,00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-12-28)

Is there a possible solution available ?

Greetings,
Hubert
did you enable video 2D Acceleration?

just enable 2D then boot back up to LInux

in any cause it would work better after the installation of linux mint is completed

Hi Ciompton,

Enabling 2D video acceleration displays an "invalid settings detected" error message!
When clicking OK the checkmark is ignored.

"Enable 3D acceleration" is accepted but it's still running very slow !!

Maybe I should try VMware Player instead of Oracle VM Virtualbox ?
Hi GuiltSpark,

Thank you for your response.

But sorry, I'm totally ignorant about Linux.
This is my first acquaintance with this OS and a first attempt to install Linux Mint correctly in a virtual machine.
The info in the link you provided seems to solve the problem but yet sounds a bit like chinese to me !
...

Step I
I performed the command line successful in a terminal window

Step 2
..." then install the Guest Additions provided with VirtualBox by clicking Devices > Insert Guest Additions CD Image..."

Don't know were to find this ...
don't worry  GS is a expect Linux Chinese translator lol just kidding

its ok you have a  first time for everything

run this command

Code:
sudo apt-get install virtualbox-guest-dkms
OK, adjustments made.
Have even done a complete new installation.
Restarted after initial adjustment.
Second adjustment completed + restart.
Unfortunately, the result is the same as before.

Hi guys,

Despite everything being done correctly, I did not succeed.
Because I was really irritated and the Linux Guest did not perform well (on my system), I finally removed "Oracle VM Virtualbox" and installed "VMware Workstation 12 Player".
Here I experienced some issues with copy/paste between host and guest and full screen usage. But after installing the VMware Tools, these inconveniences disappeared.
On my system, VMWare also performs better.
And so I can finally become familiar with Linux.

In any case, thanks for the effort.

Greetings,
Hubert
