My computer has been weird lately. Now everytime I boot it up, the startup sounds won't play. Before this happened, I hooked a failing hard drive to it, and the computer has been slower. I looked in sounds settings for the start up sound checkbox but it's already ticked.
A small note: Yesterday I was applying the patch for Wannacry, when it booted up to say preparing to configure windows, the start up sound played. When I rebooted, it was somehow fast and the start up sound still play. Another reboot and computer slowed down again and the sound disappeared too.
(Sorry if the way I describe it is messed up)

No, I always put the speaker at around 50% loud.

I tried and it replaced imageres.dll, the boot sound dll (which is understandable since I tweaked it to play Longhorn startup sound instead). But it still doesn't play.

  1. Uncheck and re check play windows startup sound
  2. select apply
  3. select ok
  4. restart the system check to see if  problem is fix
