Ok I have an external hard drive attached to one of 3 pc's and I have mapped it as a network drive, I want to back up the other 2 PC's to this drive, when I go to windows 7 backup in control panel and select backup to a network location I select the mapped drive I am being asked to enter network credentials, username and password. in advanced sharing options password protected sharing is turned off.
Can anybody help

yes windows is asking for network credentials passwords are disabled in advanced sharing

Have you tried the fix in the link Compton posted?
