Good day All,

I have the above error on a dell optiplex sff 7040. With 128Gb SSD drive.

Tried win 7 repair disk. Could not repair. Big surprise....


bootrec.exe /fixmbr
bootsect.exe /nt60 all /force
bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd

Also, I did scan the hard drive for errors and ran the dell diagnostics. No issue.

No luck. I would hate to reformat and reinstall everything. The world seems to be able to fix this error except me.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart....

Your going to have to run "Startup Repair" from your Windows 7 installation CD/USB... Where it prompts you to install Windows, select repair my computer...This will launch the repair console.

Also, if your controller is set to IDE in your BIOS, You may want to change it to AHCI...

Did both replies above except ide to achi. This is solid state drive.


I get the same error.

I would scan the SSD with something other than the Dell Diagnostics, Something like HD Tune so you can scan the drive sectors. Many times I have run across a situation where Windows or a manufacture tool was wrong and the drive was bad.

1. Boot to Windows 7 CD or USB, once it gets to install now screen, press "repair your computer". Please locate your Windows DVD before

2. Navigate to system recovery options screen and click Startup Repair once that's finished click Command Prompt

3. Command prompt should load X:/Windows/System32 change directory to C or D drive, and press enter C: type dir to see if you see windows directory. 
4. Once you in the right drive, sometimes d:
5. Type: chkdsk /f /r  (If you are in C: you can put [b]chkdsk c: /f /r ) (you can use a /m to dismount drive)[/b]
this should repair your C partition. 
6. Once complete type /fixboot
7. Next type /fixmbr
8. Type exit and reboot computer.
