How To Add a Solid State Drive to a Desktop Computer

Is your Pc just not quick enough? Why upgrade to a Solid State Drive? "A Solid State Drive will boot your OS faster than HDD drives" SSD's will transfer data faster, load programs faster and you will go through 800TB of data before thinking about replacing it. When Solid State Drives came out, you would have to rob your piggy bank, only to come up short. You can buy a decent SSD for under 100.00 dollars now. Once you buy your solid state drive, you can begin your upgrade.

Power off your PC and disconnect all attaching cables. Make sure you are not standing on carpet, for Static Electricity Reasons. Concrete, Wood or Linoleum is ideal.

Now open the case. Before touching inside the case press the power button, as if you were to boot up the PC, this releases any remaining power, double-check by looking inside the case for any lights. Touch the case with your hands to ground yourself. An anti-static wristband would be ideal. But if you don't have one "Touch" the outside of the case periodically protecting your PC from damage.

Unplug existing drive. "Some PC's will not have the proper wiring to add a second hard drive" you will need to buy a Two-Way plug. Plug in the Two-Way plug. Add the Solid State Drive.

All that's left is to mount the SSD this can be done with a SSD mounting bracket, if you have an extra Hard Drive Bay. If you don't have an extra bay, it can be mounted anywhere inside the case using a Damage-free Hanging Strip.

Now that you have installed your new Solid State Drive, you need to reinstall or clone your operating system. The Windows OS doesn't recognize a two-drive configuration while installing the operating system. You will need to disconnect the storage drive. Ideally, you will want the "HDD" as the storage drive, leaving the "SSD" for the Operating System. Once the installation of the Operating System is complete, you will plug the HDD(storage) drive back in, completing the upgrade.
