Full Version: Error opening *.mid file

while trying opening the *.mid file, it gives me a error, do i need to download and install codec?
it's working in windows media player

Well, VLC just doesn't suport midi format, but I think you can install SoundFont codec. You can read more here: https://wiki.videolan.org/Midi

Well, the support for MIDI has ended  starting from the version 2.1.0 due to security issues. It is specified at https://wiki.videolan.org/Midi as you can see below

I still wanted to give it a try and so downloaded the zip file, extracted the files and placed them inside the VLC folder but it couldn't locate FluidSynth
thank you MarioLuigi55 and Partha, can i open *.mid file with IrfanView?
its a audio file you can,t open it in IrfanView because its use to view images

No. But you can play them with Windows Media Player

it can open with irfanview too, it's working
