what happens if i don't have anti virus installed even i have latest windows updates and safe software installed?

You are never 100% safe on the internet using Windows in it's common state no matter what protection you have installed. The best protection from infections is all about layers. This includes having Windows fully updated, one good virus protection software, one good malware protection program, a good software firewall, a good browser protector like WOT, not computing as administrator and of course being smart about how you compute and avoid "careless clicking". There are more advanced ways to help keep from getting infected but these are just some basic things to keep on mind.
