i really want to play ratchet and clank going commando again because that was so fun on my ps2. But i'm wondering if downloading a rom of that which which i can run on an emulator is illegal. I've seen some people say that if it is a discontinued game then it's fine and some people say if the developer or someone says ok then it's fine. So is downloading and rom file for a game illegal. also if it depends on the model/console i wish to get these roms for ps2

yes downloading rom is illegal also rom of itself comes with malware
you would have to modified the PS2 for the rom to run

Ok i was asking because my school as a ps2 emulator and has roms for crash bandicoot and medievil
