This is the IDEAL method of computer problem solving. (It can also be used for other problem solving issues)

Whatever the issue you maybe facing, here are the fundamental steps: Identify, Define, Examine, Act, Look = IDEAL

Identify the problem you're computer is having.
Define the problem and understand precisely how and why the problem is happening.
Examine the options and various solutions to you're problem.
Act on a plan and look at your list of solutions. Pick out the solution that looks best. Now act on that plan.
Look at the consequences, did your plan work out OK? LEARN by you're mistakes and remember no plan is perfect. But the plan you carried out is certainly I.D.E.A.L.

Reading any tech site for answers to fix your computer problems can be a bad thing, if you don't know what your doing. Example?

Q. My computer keeps crashing and I am getting a blue screen?

A. You're motherboard or hard drive is dying, you need to buy a new one.

Another example?

Q. My computer is slowing down and keeps freezing up. I don't have backup and I have all my work documents on there?

A. Run chkdsk /r /f and then run deep scan on hard drive with Seatools.

Does any of this help you? NO. it could be some 12 year old posting a reply who has no previous knowledge in fixing computers.
Some knowledge in computers is advisable when searching for computer repair fix's on the internet, because even though the computer problem looks the same, it does not mean the repair or the solution to resolve the issue is the same.

Answer 1 Is he a guru and just knows the answer without seeing or diagnosing the issue? NO

Answer 2 He could be on the right path, BUT no backup of data first? maybe drive dies in the process of that scan and he will lose everything or cost a lot of money to recover that data by data recovery.

So there you go, my 2 cents on finding the right answer on the internet. You have got to have a clue or idea whats going on in the first place to resolve a issue correctly and safely.
