Error 0xc0000428 winload.exe
#1
Hello all. I'm new to this forum and going by the the reviews on YouTube etc, Im hopeful my issue will be resolved!

Basically, I tried using my laptop to fix the bootmgr on an external hard disk and all hell has broke lose. I installed "EasyBCD" to try fix the mbr but whatever I've done , i didn't change the path from my C: drive to the external drive (which was F: I believe). I went ahead and tried to install a new Boot/BCD and it's went pear shaped. It installed as a backup somewhere but whatever else I've done its screwed me over. I restarted my computer and I got a dreaded black screen with an error winload.exe

Status: 0xc000428

Info :windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file! :-(

I've tried everything from repair disks to /fixmbr /fix boot to even completely rebuilding the bcd! I've tried numerous solutions with hirens boot cd  and I'm still getting nowhere!

I'd really appreciate if someone could please, please help me figure this issue out and rectify the problem. I need my computer for an open university degree I'm doing and my modules need to be completed and emailed by Monday. I'm using an iPhone to post this.. please help :-(

did you try a repair install ?

#3
No way of just rebuilding the mbr with another command? Too
Much hassle having to do a complete install! Something must be able to rectify the issue. EasyBCD done it. Surely there is some way of reverting changes made etc?

#4
nope I think you try everything \

you would be doing a repair install not a complete re install

#5
But will I be able to keep my settings as they were?

#6
What are the two OS's involved?

#7
no it should not watch this video

Guiltyspark, there was only one. Windows 7. I opened a program called EasyBCD to try and follow a tutorial on how to fix another hard disk which had problems booting. I for some reason clicked on bcd store and change settings thinking I was doing the right thing but I've messed up somewhere. I tried all of the above several times and all I get is the same error or depending on the command I use, it gives me a different error like 0x000009 etc. I used a data cable to connect another 2.5 hdd to my computer and all went tits up after I changed settings. I'm lost :-(

If you have a Windows cd run these command in command prompt.
  • bootrec /fixmbr
  • bootrec /fixboot
  • bootrec /rebuildBCD
