BIOS password reset
#1
Sad
Gentlemen, I successfully got my ASUS G73JH restored back to genuine windows 7 home premium, however, it has PW's set up in bios for admin and user I wish to delete these as they are the last owners pw's, do I need to flash the bios to do this?  it wont let me remove them in bios, I tried to leave the space blank in bios settings and almost burried myself, asus bios drivers and flash utilities have a list a mile long , my bios version says G73JH 211, does that mean I need the following and is it safe ? or do I need to flash it?? I have to put the ASUS drivers back, ie, sound, backlighting for keyboard etc...  but there are numerous drivers and not real specific on which I need, for instance the sound has 3 drivers shown by ASUS does that mean I need all 3? I not even sure what they would put keyboard lighting under,

Scott, BIOS password reset can be a tricky business for laptops, every model of laptop are different from the next, sometimes removing the tiny CMOS battery for a minute or so works on some laptops. But this is not always successful. I will be home later and be more clear on your options.

Options:
  • Contact and ask manufacturer of the laptop, they will help remove the password at a cost.
  • Try remove CMOS battery and clear it that way (not always successful on laptops)
  • There are tiny jumper pins which you can short out which will remove BIOS password (they can be in different places, common place is under memory panel on motherboard and under stickers on motherboard when you remove memory)
  • Software works well, but can be risky if it goes wrong I will list software later)
  • Some websites can generate bios reset codes for a small fee, some are free, these work well on some laptops.
  • Replace BIOS ROM chip

You know what Brian, I got everything working perfectly, wireless is finally working great, keyboard lights are back, sound, camera, ethernet, etc..... are all back, I had to install alot of the ASUS drivers but she's flying now, as far as the BIOS password reset, I think I'll just leave well enough alone for now, I just changed the Admin P/W and User P/W to ones of my own, however  I would still welcome your ideas on this subject, but I don't want to tear it apart any more right now as it is running great,  it was running high fan speed all the time and real hot, so I did take the back panel off and clean it out w/ compressed air, it's whisper quiet now @ 29 degrees, jamming right along.  TY for your input, I really appreciate it Brian ---
