I've been hearing a lot about prefetch and superfetch located in the registry under hkey Local machine in the memory management/prefetch paremeter, setting the value from 3 to 1 is supposed to increase how long it takes for applications to launch, is this a good tweak to use as long as its not on an ssd?

Since I have a mechanical drive I have decided to switch the values from 3 to 1 for both superfetch and prefetcher.
Before I restarted the pc I deleted the files inside the prefetch folder and when it went back to desktop after the restart I defraged the drive and the results are wonderful but I'm wanting to know if I need to watch out for anything that can damage the pc?

The way I look at it is this, SSD is new Technology and has not been around as long a mechanical drives, it all comes down to read and writes to the drive. I never really keep much important stuff on that SSD, just windows really, so if it fails...so be it. I will buy a new one, I think people over dramatize disabling, Indexing, prefetch and superfetch, I mean where do you stop. Temp folder, Temporary Internet Files Folder, Roaming Folder...I can go on and on.
Don't worry to much, buy a good SSD with a branded name and your good to go, Samsung Disable a lot of stuff for you with there software once you install it. I have had two SSD die on me and these were the early ones when they was very expensive, one turned to RAW which I can fix, because its shagged and the other just died, both branded names.

I see, what are the requirements for a computer to be able to use an ssd? Ive heard about ssd and have been intrested but i haven't read or heard anything about what a computer so ive in away been avoiding em i guess ill say.

A SSD can just about work in any computer that supports SATA connections.
