Hi all - just stumbled across this excellent set of videos when looking for a solution on a repair to Win7. This is all because I am unable to restore, even in safe mode and after a sfc/scannow option.
My question is..........there is a reference to uninstall SP1 during the repair process but this is not listed in my windows updates. That is because it is included in my Windows 7 Pro disc. Can I just proceed as advised in the video??
Thanks to all in advance.

Yes, that is what I thought, but fully disabling Avast does not disable the self protection. Open Avast>Settings> Troubleshooting>un-tick Avast self defence module

Hi Ron. Thanks. I have just run through the whole 2 hour process and at the end was faced with the message "The upgrade was not successful. Your previous version of Windows is being restored".
However note your point about the Avast setting and I hadn't done that. So will do it again now with this box unchecked as well. I shall post back the result in about 2 hours.

Hi Ron you may well be right at the end of it all. It is halfway through at the moment and so no stopping it now! If this upgrade doesn't work I shall try a restore with the avast fully disabled. I'll let you know what happens. Btw thanks for the avast tip.

Owen
Sorry, I appear to have misled you. When I said you need to disable Avast self defence protection I was not referring to the repair upgrade install. I was referring to using system restore. A repair upgrade did not fix one of the problems that I had, to wit system restore was not working. I only fixed that by un-ticking Avast self defence.
Best of luck
